Before You Know It (BYKI)

We've all seen "flash cards" for learning words. BYKI, a multimedia natural-language application, uses virtual flash cards for learning foreign words and phrases. Available on Windows, Mac, Pocket PC, and Palm, this solution developed by Envion Software uses advanced algorithms to present words, monitor progress, and "decide" whether users can go on to the next level. To help reinforce learning, BYKI uses native-speaker pronunciation and visual associations. For this wonderful learning tool from Transparent Language, Envion Software implemented a customized cross-platform file format, a customized file format for keeping word lists as encrypted XML files, an audio-processing capability, with recording from a microphone, slow play-back, matching the recording with the original, and graphical representation of the audio. Everything to make learning fun, easier, and effective. We also gave BYKI a modular design so it can be multi-purposed for additional word-learning products.
