Our story since 1984
1984 – 1985
Envion is founded by a group of MIT students and professors. Dashes, the algorithmic hyphenation for English, is released; Understander, the semantic relevance algorithm, is prototyped showing 96% accuracy against well-written English text.
1985 – 1987
The PassWord spellchecker is released. In partnership with Manhattan Graphics, Envion pioneers the Desktop Publishing revolution and ships Ready,Set,Go! 3.0 — declared by InfoWorld to usher in the second generation of desktop publishing software, and winner of the Software Publishers Association’s Best Software Upgrade award.
1987 – 1990
Work on the WordFan English stemmer begins. Envion invents a compression algorithm that packs WordFan linguistic data with 94–97% efficiency — 2 to 4 bits per word with conjugation information. Atex, Digital Research, Quark, Adobe, and Oracle license Envion NLP technologies, and work begins on InOtherWords, Envion’s own semantic network for American English.
1990 – 1999
Dashes grows to support 32 languages; algorithmic stemming and WordFan become multilingual. Microsoft licenses Envion NLP technologies. Envion envisions and develops Civeterna.com, a social networking website.
2000 – 2006
Envion shifts its business model from developing its own products to software engineering services — and opens its office in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
2006 – 2018
An Envion-developed iPhone language-learning app wins Apple’s award for the most advanced use of Apple technology. Envion establishes a presence in Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv.
2018 – 2027
Envion demonstrates resilience through extraordinary challenges, navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and maintaining stable operations during russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The company supports the Armed Forces of Ukraine through donations and strengthens the national economy by preserving and creating jobs for Ukrainian professionals.
